Embedded Software Engineer - Intern

Write firmware that powers next-generation wearable technology

Bengaluru, India (In Office)Full-time

About Ixana

Ixana is a Purdue University spinoff pioneering brain-inspired wearable computing. We've developed Wi-R, a patented communication tech that's 100x more energy-efficient than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Join our 60-person team building the next era of real-time, AI-powered human-computer interaction.

We provide comprehensive relocation support for candidates based outside Bengaluru.

The Wi-R Revolution

Wi-R is our patented non-radiative near-field communication technology that creates secure "wire-like wireless" experiences through small E-field bubbles around your body. This breakthrough enables unprecedented energy efficiency at sub-0.1 nanojoules per bit, making long-term wearable and implantable devices finally practical.

What You'll Do

Write bare-metal C/C++ firmware to interface MCUs with sensors and Wi-R chips.
Contribute to embedded software development for Wi-R reference devices like smart glasses, smartwatches, earbuds, EEG/EMG nodes, and more.
Build, test, and debug low-level embedded code on custom hardware platforms.
Assist in integrating and optimizing communication protocols (I2C, SPI, BLE) for wearable use cases.
Work closely with hardware and system engineers to support design iteration and hardware bring-up.
Contribute to the development of the Wi-R embedded software stack and tooling.

What We're Looking For

Required:

Pursuing or recently completed a B.Tech in ECE, EE, CS, or a related field.
Strong programming skills in C/C++.
Basic understanding of MCU firmware development and embedded systems.
Familiarity with low-level programming concepts, including bare-metal or register-level programming, is a plus.
Exposure to communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, or BLE through coursework or personal projects.
Hands-on experience with embedded projects, robotics, IoT, or hardware labs is preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and an eagerness to learn.

Preferred:

Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or embedded debugging tools through academic or personal projects.
Familiarity with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, or USB.
Personal embedded systems projects, robotics, or hardware hacking experience.
Exposure to PCB design or firmware-hardware integration.
Familiarity with embedded toolchains, makefiles, or build environments.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive internship stipend.
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge wireless technology.
Mentorship from experienced hardware and embedded software engineers.
